Network Fundamentals
Federal and state governments, as well as local communities, are in need of IT professionals, but have challenges finding professionals with the required training, certifications and clearances (when required) to fulfill positions.
The School of Professional Studies at the University of the Incarnate Word has partnered with the uniquely qualified provider Career Educational Services (CES) to deliver the Network Fundamentals program. This course establishes the core knowledge required of any networking role and provides a core foundation needed to work with both wired and wireless networks. The course will also include instruction on emerging technologies such as unified communications, mobile, cloud and virtualization technologies. At the conclusion of the course, students will have the tools to develop a career in IT infrastructure covering troubleshooting, configuring and managing networks.
Learning Objectives
In six weeks, the program will equip students with the knowledge and skills needed to incorporate best practices in hands-on troubleshooting and learn the practical networking skills required to:
- Understand critical security concepts to help networking professionals work with security practitioners.
- Use cloud computing best practices and understand newer hardware and visualization techniques.
- Understand concepts to keep networks resilient.
- Design and implement functional networks.
- Configure, manage and maintain essential network devices.
- Use devices such as switches and routers to segment network traffic and create resilient networks.
- Identify benefits and drawbacks of existing network configurations.
- Implement network security, standards and protocols.
- Troubleshoot network problems.
- Support the creation of visualized networks.
Our team leverages an evolving suite of tools to ensure a collaborative environment among the instructors and students.
Mentors are available to coach and assist students as they transition into new networking positions. Additionally, students will have lifetime access to our digital portal, which is an interactive platform where the students and instructors can collaborate, communicate and share content related to networking.
