Certified Medical Administrative Assistant

Medical administrative assistants have an expansive range of opportunities for employment. The skills learned through the NHA CMAA certification are essential to hospitals, physician offices, surgery centers, nursing homes, dental offices, home healthcare agencies, mental health facilities, insurance companies, and consulting firms.

We realize work, life, and family obligations can sometimes prevent individuals from attaining educational opportunities. With that in mind, we have tailored the program to fit the busy schedules required by family life and work.

As a CMAA, job duties may include some or all of the following tasks:

  • Coordinate hospital admissions and laboratory services
  • Assist with billing and bookkeeping
  • Coordinate hospital admissions and laboratory services
  • Schedule patient appointments
  • Handle office correspondence (e.g. mail and email)
  • Complete and fill out insurance forms
  •  Maintain medical records (updating, filing, etc.)
  • Greet patients and facilitate the check-in process
  • Answer office telephones

The CMAA program offers students both theoretical and practical training. This program prepares students to take the Certified Medical Administrative Assistant examination through NHA.
