Security + Fundamentals

Federal and state governments, and local communities, are in dire need of cybersecurity professionals but have challenges finding professionals with the required training and certifications to fulfill IT security positions.

The School of Professional Studies at the University of the Incarnate Word has selected a uniquely qualified provider to deliver the Security A+ Fundamentals program in partnership with Career Educational Services (CES). This course establishes the core knowledge required for any cybersecurity role and provides a foundation for securing cybersecurity positions. The course provides the practical and hands-on ability to identify and address security threats, attacks and vulnerabilities. Students will be trained and assessed on their ability to perform core security functions and pursue an IT security career.

Learning Objective

Provide students in six weeks with the knowledge and skills to incorporate best practices in hands-on troubleshooting and practical security problem-solving skills required to:

  • Assess the security posture of an organization’s environment
  • Recommend and implement appropriate security solutions
  • Monitor and secure hybrid environments, such as cloud and mobile
  • Understand and apply relevant laws and policies, including principles of governance, risk and compliance
  • Identify, analyze and respond to security events and incidents

Our team leverages an evolving suite of tools to ensure a collaborative environment among the instructors and students.

We truly believe that we have the best instructors in the industry. Our instructors have indispensable real-world experience and education. Additionally, they are Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) within the Cybersecurity industry and have worked within the federal, state and commercial sector for 15+ years, bringing a holistic concept to the classroom.

Mentors are available to coach and assist students as they transition into new cybersecurity positions. Additionally, students will have lifetime access to our digital portal, which is an interactive platform where the students and instructors can collaborate, communicate and share content related to cybersecurity.

To maintain a low teacher-student ratio, seating is limited. We accept 15 to 25 applicants into this program.

Course Cost

Cost: $2,999 (without a computer) or $3,499 (with computer)

Prerequisites: General IT knowledge or experience is preferred.

We can include a new computer for an extra $500. If you are using your own computer, you must have the latest version of Microsoft Office Suite, Windows 10 operating system and access to the internet. Students experience hands-on training taught by skilled and highly experienced instructors, utilizing real-world scenarios relevant to the current cybersecurity environment. Instructors utilize innovative teaching methods and strategies to improve student engagement, motivation and attainment of knowledge as they seek to obtain certification.
