Medical Billing and Coding

The Certified Billing and Coding Specialist (CBCS) training course will prepare you to successfully pass the Certified Billing and Coding Specialist examination through the National Healthcareer Association (NHA) and directly enter the field of healthcare. The CBCS program offers students both theoretical and practical training through hands-on experience. Instruction is provided by an experienced CBCS who is current in the field of coding. The program includes a well-blended mix of classroom, audio-visual presentation and a shadow experience.

Become a Certified Billing and Coding Specialist

Billing and Coding Specialists have an expansive range of opportunities for employment. The skills learned through the NHA CBCS certification are essential to hospitals, physician offices, surgery centers, nursing homes, dental offices, home healthcare agencies, mental health facilities and even insurance companies and consulting firms.

This 16-week program includes shadowing, an exam bootcamp and a certification exam (if eligible). There are 14 weeks of lecture (including Saturdays), 1 week of shadow hours, then 1 week of exam bootcamp and certification exam.

  • Support coding and billing process
  • Assign codes for diagnoses and procedures
  • Submit claims for reimbursement
  • Coach healthcare providers to achieve optimal reimbursement

Shadow Experience

The shadow portion of the program can serve as working experience and a reference for future employment. After completion of the class portion of the program, your instructor will assist with helping you to be placed in a local medical office to gain hands-on experience vital for your success. It is a shadow experience of 24 hours. The location of the office and the times you work will be based on where and when you can work. Once you complete the shadow experience, you will receive your certificate of completion from the University of the Incarnate Word School of Professional Studies.

To maintain a low teacher-student ration, seating is limited. We only accept 20 applicants into this program.

Cost

Total cost of the course is $4,000. Our courses offer financial assistance in Sallie Mae loan, payment plans, MyCAA.
