Common Professional Components
Students entering the School of Professional Studies MBA program may not have all the necessary prerequisite courses, or Common Professional Components (CPC), to begin taking classes. The solution to this dilemma is a set of self-paced courses that will bring you to the level of knowledge necessary to begin the MBA program. The School of Professional Studies at the University of the Incarnate Word selected a uniquely-qualified provider, Ivy Software, to deliver the CPC courses online at only $200 per course. This is a fraction of the cost compared to attending the full semester course.
CPC Courses
- Business Math and Statistics
- Fundamentals of Economics
- Financial Accounting
- Managerial Accounting
Course Format
Each course is online and consists of a five or six-chapter text in PDF and interactive software. Students will read a chapter of the text and then turn to the software to go through numerous interactive exercises and problems, tutorial screens, a video lecture and a final exam on the chapter. Each chapter takes approximately three to four hours to complete. This includes reading the text and completing the interactive software. Student background may determine the completion time of each module.
When the course is completed, the student will need to successfully complete a 40-question, randomly-generated comprehensive online final exam over the chapters discussed in the CPC course. Students must pass the final exam with a score of 80% or above, students are given 3 attempts to pass the exam. Students will need to take the course if they are not able to pass the exam.
