The University of the Incarnate Word (UIW) is proud to partner with the City of Dallas to offer city employees and their dependents a tuition discount.
The City of Dallas Tuition Discount Program includes tuition discounts for City of Dallas employees or their dependents for online courses at the UIW School of Professional Studies (SPS).
The City of Dallas Tuition Discount Program aims to provide City of Dallas employees and their dependents with quality education to meet career goals and provide professional growth.
Eligibility Requirements
City of Dallas employees and their dependents who are based in the U.S.
Employees who are in a regular, full-time work status before the first day of classes for the semester or term or their dependents.
Employees and dependents must apply and meet UIW admissions requirements including submitting all previous transcripts.
Employees must submit the required City of Dallas Tuition Discount Program (pdf) documentation to the UIW School of Professional Studies no later than 14 days prior to the start of the semester or term.
Employees or their dependents may be part-time or full-time student status.
Admissions Requirements
Individuals must apply to the University of the Incarnate Word through the normal application process and will be evaluated according to the same admission standards as all other applicants. To begin receiving the tuition discount, applicants should notify the Human Resources Department at the City of Dallas as soon as possible after they have been admitted to the University.
The City of Dallas Tuition Discount Program is a tuition discount for online courses at the UIW School of Professional Studies available to City of Dallas employees and their dependents.
Fees: Waived except for the following
Records fee $40 (one time charge)
Graduation fee $50 (one time charge)
Deferred payment plan fee $50 (if the plan is utilized)
Some programs may also have fees for specific courses.
The discount only applies to published UIW tuition rates for the School of Professional Studies online undergraduate and graduate degree programs in which City of Dallas employees, or their dependents, enroll.
Tuition discounts do not apply to any other UIW school or campus other than the School of Professional Studies.
The discount does not apply to UIW fees, such as parking fees and citations, deferred payment fees, or any other fees.
The tuition discount may not be stacked or cumulated with UIW or School of Professional Studies funded discounts or scholarships in any term.
The tuition discount cannot be applied retroactively.
The tuition discount is applied after the final date for the respective term to drop courses has occurred.
External scholarships or financial aid assistance are permissible.
The City of Dallas Tuition Discount Program applies to associate, bachelor's, and master’s level online courses in the School of Professional Studies (SPS).
Enrollment deadlines are the same as for the eligible programs.
The City of Dallas Tuition Discount program does not apply to:
Certificate programs
Doctoral degrees, including Pharmacy, Optometry, Nursing, Physical Therapy, Medicine, Occupational Therapy, DBA and PhD degrees
Study Abroad programs are not eligible for the tuition discount.
Verification of employment will be handled by the UIW School of Professional Studies contacting the City of Dallas and using the information provided on the City of Dallas Tuition Discount Program Form.
Verification of a dependent will be by a method prescribed by the UIW School of Professional Studies, such as payroll records, dependent insurance medical coverage, tax returns, or birth certificates.
Tuition discounts remain in pending status until UIW verifies employment with the City of Dallas and/or dependent status at the start of each term.
A dependent of a City of Dallas employee must have been claimed as a legal exemption of the City of Dallas employee on their most recent federal income tax return.
A dependent is defined as:
The biological or legally adopted child of the City of Dallas employee.
A stepchild of the City of Dallas employee may utilize the Tuition Discount provided his/her primary residence is the same as that of the City of Dallas employee.
A child for whom the City of Dallas employee has legal guardianship and custody for a minimum of three years and has resided with the City of Dallas employee for that same time period may utilize the tuition discount provided appropriate court documents are presented for total or partial support in anticipation of adoption.
UIW student accounts must be current to be eligible for the program.
Non-UIW scholarships may be applied to a student’s account.
Employees are eligible to apply for and receive state or federal need-based financial aid. The tuition discount awarded will be included in the student’s financial aid award.
