Professional Development Sessions
Professional development is a critical piece of the instructional process. New and experienced faculty will benefit from opportunities to keep up with current and emerging trends in teaching online, higher education, best practices and the development of new skills.
The following sessions are sponsored by the University of the Incarnate Word School of Professional Studies Academic Affairs in collaboration with other partners. This variety of sessions is designed to meet your unique instructional needs. Sessions are open to all University of the Incarnate Word faculty and staff.

Spacing Effect (1 hour)

In this session, we will explore the Spacing Effect, which is a highly researched but often overlooked learning principle. We will discuss what it is, why it's important, and how it can help students retain information.

Turnitin Launches AI (1 hour)
Date: Sept. 6, 2023, from Noon - 1 p.m.
Turnitin launches AI detection to help educators identify when AI writing tools such as ChatGPT have been used in students’ submissions.

Creating Accessible Files (1 hour)

Canvas Course Design with Accessibility in Mind (1 Hour)
Date: Oct. 4, 2023, from Noon - 1 p.m.
As was previously discussed in the summer, this session will focus on ways to make sure your Canvas Course is accessible to all users.

Respondus LockDown Browser (1 Hour)
Date: Oct. 18, 2023, from Noon - 1 p.m.
LockDown Browser is a custom browser that locks down the testing environment within Canvas. Used at over 2000 higher educational institutions, LockDown Browser is the “gold standard” for securing exams and quizzes.

Google Voice (1 hour)

It’s time to talk about a great option for faculty, Google Voice. It is a Voice number that allows you to work on smartphones and the web so you can place and receive calls from anywhere. Think about student calls.
