Certified Clinical Medical Assistant

We offer the Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) training program. We have tailored the CCMA program to fit the busy schedules of students with career, life and family obligations.

Prepare to pass the National Healthcareer Association Exam

The CCMA program offers our students both theoretical and practical training through hands-on experience. The duration of the course is sixteen (16) weeks and includes preparation for the certification examination administered by the National Healthcareer Association (NHA).

In addition to 96 hours in the classroom and homework study time, our students are eligible to complete an 80-clock-hour externship experience. The externship serves as working experience, as well as a reference for future employment. Students are also eligible to take exams to have certifications as a Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) and EKG Technician (CET) after the course is complete.

Curriculum

  • Interview patients
  • Measure and record vital signs
  • Prepare exam rooms
  • Clean and sterilize medical equipment
  • Administer injections, as well as topical or oral medications
  • Perform venipuncture and point-of-care testing

Externship Opportunity

After completion of the class portion of the program, our Class Coordinator will assist with helping you to be placed in a local Family Practice office to gain hands-on experience vital for your success. The location of the office and the times you work will be based on where and when you can work. Once you complete the externship, you will receive your certificate of completion from the University of Incarnate Word School of Professional Studies.
