I am a busy working adult with lots of responsibilities, including work, children and all the day-to-day things that come with them. Why should I consider going to school?
I can totally relate! Many of us jumped into our adult lives without starting, or perhaps completing, a post high school degree. However, in today’s economy it really isn’t an option to not have a degree. Many employers are now requiring a bachelor’s degree to get a promotion, and in some cases to even get a job.
As an employee you become much more valuable because of your increased knowledge. Education ensures your employer gets an employee that is a critical thinker that has knowledge that they can apply to his/her jobs and also understand the dynamics of working in a multi-faceted environment. This is win-win for both employer and employee.
According to a U.S. Census Bureau Press Release in 2005 earning a bachelors degree will nearly double the yearly salary of someone that only holds a high school diploma. Going on to complete an advanced degree will increase the holders earning potential by an average of 25% over the holder of just a bachelor’s degree. As this information indicates it makes good economic sense to invest in YOU by completing a college degree!
There are other less intrinsic reasons to complete a college degree. As a parent, your completing a college degree is one of the best examples you can provide to your child. You will be putting them on the path of completing high school and moving on to college. Pursuing education will help ensure that your children will reap the benefits of economic success and learn that education is a stepping stone to a better future.
