Why a degree in Criminal Justice?

Dr. Brian Kinnaird Criminal Justice UIWSecurity is everyone’s business. We watch for danger, lock our doors, and make sure our loved ones are protected. Violent and property crimes are on the rise, juvenile delinquency rates are up, and the recidivism rate stays high. When we hear a police siren or see news reports about local crime it brings the concerns home. The result is tremendous needs, as well as many opportunities, in the fields of law enforcement, corrections, juvenile justice, law, and private security. Criminal justice is now one of the most requested degree programs, both here at UIW and nationwide.

The Extended Academic Programs Division (EAP) at University of the Incarnate Word (UIW) welcomed a new bachelor degree in criminal justice in December of 2009.  We're excited to begin assisting students with their personal and professional learning. We are offering our first criminal justice courses this fall and will continue to roll-out our professional degree program over the next year. EAP serves both online and on-ground students through UIW Online and Adult Degree Completion Program (ADCaP) to meet the needs of adult students.
Our Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice (BSCJ) will allow students to complete a degree with exciting and relevant coursework in addition to preparing them for the workplace, law, or graduate school.

Whether you are interested in serving our communities in the criminal justice field or would simply like to learn more about why crime exists, what we can do about it, and how it affects you, your family, or your workplace, visit the UIW adult education website at www.adulted.uiw.edu and then advance to our criminal justice page. We hold evening and online classes to accommodate the busy adult.

Thank you for taking the time to visit us and we look forward to serving you!
