The rising cost of textbooks is an issue that all institutions of higher learning try to address. At UIW, we know it is difficult for some students to afford a textbook on top of their tuition payments. Brainpower Online is the School of Professional Studies innovative initiative to provide free textbooks for all undergraduate students with no additional fees. Many of the text books are in electronic format, making them accessible and portable, using your laptop or eBook reading device. When you enroll for an undergraduate class in the School of Professional Studies, we will include this added benefit, which means no out-of-pocket expenses for textbooks. The University of the Incarnate Word's Extended Academic Programs also provides textbooks at no charge to undergraduate and graduate students who are active-duty military (including National Guard or Reservists using Tuition Assistance).*
Textbooks will be available to download at no cost when you log in to your course via Blackboard.
What if my course does not have an e-book?
Some courses may not have e-books. In this case, the textbook will be available at the UIW Bookstore. Please contact your Academic Advisor to learn how you may request a voucher to receive your textbook from the bookstore.
The free book program is subject to all copyright laws. The distribution of e-books without authorization will result in severe disciplinary actions.
*Note: Free textbooks apply to undergraduate and graduate courses taken through the School of Professional Studies and do not apply to courses taken on the UIW main campus or other UIW schools. Free textbooks do not apply towards doctoral degrees.
